Overview

Specialist Support When It Matters Most

A deputy is appointed by the Court of Protection to make decisions for someone who lacks mental capacity, typically managing finances, bills, investments, reporting to the Office of the Public Guardian and, where relevant, large compensation awards, while coordinating with care and rehabilitation professionals to support the individual’s needs.

A professional deputy may be required when no suitable family member is available, where there is conflict or ill health, or when relatives cannot take on the role due to time pressures, conflicts of interest or financial history.
