Charges

At DJF Solicitors, we are committed to transparency and clarity in our pricing. We understand that legal costs can be a concern, so we aim to provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions before you instruct us.

Our Approach to Pricing

We operate a flexible pricing model, as we have several offices and work with solicitors with varied levels of experience spread across the country. Accordingly, charges may vary depending on your location and the solicitor working on your matter.

We always provide a clear written estimate at the outset of your matter and before any costs are incurred.

 

Below are some general cost ranges for certain matter types. For other practice area splease contact one of our offices directly. 

 

Legal Services Covered

The following services are subject to SRA transparency regulations. Please click each section for more details on pricing, scope of service, and key information:

1.Conveyancing (Residential Property)

Typical fees:

  • Freehold sale/purchase: from £500–£5,000 + VAT
  • Leasehold sale/purchase: from £750–£6,000 + VAT

What’s included:

  • Title checks, searches, handling contracts, liaising with mortgage providers, completion and registration with the Land Registry.
  • Additional charges may be added where tight deadlines are involved or matters are particularly complex. You will be advised of this during the onboarding process. 

Disbursements (payable to third parties):

  • Local authority search: £100–£300
  • HM Land Registry fee: £20–£910
  • Stamp Duty Land Tax (varies by property value – we will calculate this for you)

 

2. Probate (Uncontested Estates)

Typical fees:

  • Fixed fee: from £400–£2,500 + VAT
  • Hourly rate: £180–£300 + VAT (if applicable)

What’s included:

  • Applying for the grant of probate, collecting assets, distributing the estate.

Disbursements:

  • Probate application fee: £273
  • Bankruptcy search: £2 per beneficiary
  • Land Registry fees if applicable

 

3. Employment Tribunals (Unfair/Wrongful Dismissal)

Typical fees:

  • Simple case: £1,000–£5,000 +  VAT
  • Medium complexity: £5,000–£10,000 + VAT
  • High complexity: £10,000–£25,000+ + VAT

What’s included:

  • Advice and case assessment, preparation of claim/response, representation at hearing.

Barrister’s fees for advocacy are charged separately and will be discussed in advance.

 

4. Immigration (e.g. Visa Applications, Spouse, Asylum)

Typical fees:

  • From £500–£5,000 + VAT depending on case complexity

What’s included:

  • Initial consultation, preparation of application, advice on documentation, liaising with Home Office

Disbursements:

  • Home Office application fees (set by government)
  • Translation or interpreter costs (if required)

 

5. Debt Recovery (up to £100,000)

Typical fees:

  • Fixed fee debt letters: from £250 + VAT
  • Court claims: £500–£2,500 +  VAT depending on complexity

What’s included:

  • Pre-action protocol, issuing claims, negotiation, judgment enforcement

Disbursements:

  • Court fees (based on claim     value)
  • Process server or tracing     agent fees (if needed)

 

HourlyRates

Where services are charged by the hour, typical solicitor hourly rates range from:

  • Trainee/paralegal: £120–£180 + VAT
  • Solicitor: £150–£600 + VAT
  • Director: £250–£600 + VAT

Exactrates depend on location, experience, and the complexity of your case. All costs will be confirmed in writing before work begins.

 

Regional Variation

As we work with solicitors across the UK, prices may vary depending on:

  • Local market rates
  • Nature and complexity of your matter
  • Whether the work is handled by a solicitor, legal executive, or paralegal
  • The level of experience of a qualified member of staff

We always provide a tailored quote or fixed fee where possible.
